An oval opal bezelled inside a frame of gold scrollwork, with tiny gold beads worked in among the curls and a small beaded drop at the base. The stone is pale-bodied with green and blue moving through it.
The gold has gone darker down in the recesses, which is what decades of wear does to a surface this busy, and it is also what makes the scrollwork read. Polished back to an even brightness, the whole frame would flatten out.
