Facets cut into the outer face of the hoop, and because the surface curves they point in every direction at once. Whichever way your head turns, some of them are lit.
We picked her up for the facets. They are turned on a lathe with a diamond-tipped tool, which is where the name comes from, and they do in gold what a stone would otherwise be doing. At 11mm she hugs close to the lobe, so she goes under a hat and a scarf and stays put through a night's sleep.
