Long flat links with rounded ends, each one several times its own width, so there is more open space than metal down the whole length.
The name is recent, but the shape is not. Jewellers have been making elongated links like this for well over a century and calling them trombone links, after the slide. A vintage one is not part of a trend, it is the thing the trend was copying.
