A dark pearl, slightly longer than it is wide, cupped in a heavy gold bezel that wraps right around the edge of it. She stands 6.9mm off the chest, and the surface carries a purple cast that shifts as the light moves.
The setting is why she is here. A pearl is the softest thing in most jewellery boxes, and a bezel closed around the girdle protects the rim where a claw or a glued post leaves it open. That is the difference between a pearl you save for occasions and one you can wear daily.
