The gold is worked in ribs the whole way around, rounded and flat by turns, so light breaks into sections as it travels the curve. At 4.3mm through she has real body on the lobe.
We took her for the sculpting. The hoop is the oldest earring form there is, worn in Nubia four thousand years ago, and surface work like this is where a shape that old stays interesting. She sits close at 14.9mm across, which makes her the pair you reach for without thinking.
